The Starline Network
The Starline network aims to revolutionize the European transport system with a project designed to connect 39 cities, including Lisbon and Milan. This ambitious initiative seeks to establish a kind of 'metro' system that eliminates the need for air travel between these major cities.

Currently, Portugal's railway transport system differs significantly from other European countries, as high-speed rail has yet to arrive. Nevertheless, with the Starline proposal, the vision is to create a seamless travel experience across the continent.
According to Euronews, the revolutionary project was introduced by the think tank 21st Europe, aiming to link 39 European destinations. This map also includes countries like Ukraine and Turkey. However, the realization of such infrastructure might not come to fruition until the end of the century.
A Glimpse into Starline
Imagine a future where traveling to Spain and Italy is as easy as taking the metro. The Starline project reimagines Europe as a unified network rather than a collection of distant capitals. As quoted by Euronews, 21st Europe states, "Starline changes how Europeans view their continent: not as isolated capitals, but as a quick, interconnected network."
How Would the European 'Metro' Work?
The project boasts several remarkable features:
- Travel distances ranging from 300 to 400 km
- Classless cabins tailored to various needs, including quiet zones for work and family areas
- Blue design inspired by the European Union flag
- An environmentally friendly solution, potentially reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to short flights.

Viability of This Ambitious Project?
The ambitious nature of this project raises questions about its feasibility. Despite this, 21st Europe is optimistic, stating to Euronews that they believe it could be realized by the end of the century. To succeed, significant investment will be required, alongside labor agreements, technical standards, and harmonized safety regulations, necessitating collaboration among the involved governments and countries.
