Türkiye and Portugal Unite for Technology Advancement
Türkiye and Portugal have announced a joint technology platform aimed at enhancing trade diplomacy and minimizing bureaucratic hurdles between the two nations. This initiative was unveiled during the Web Summit, one of the largest technology and entrepreneurship conferences, taking place in Lisbon.
Erdem Erkul, head of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) Digital Business Council, stated, "We have agreed to create a technology platform with the participation of institutions and companies from both countries." Türkiye showcased 22 technology-focused startups at the summit, providing them with opportunities for growth and international collaboration.
Economic Collaboration
Erkul emphasized the significance of this cooperation, stating that the platform will benefit both startups and larger companies, facilitating trade and reducing bureaucratic barriers. He mentioned a similar initiative established with Spain, which is set to continue in Istanbul in December.

Erkul expressed enthusiasm for Türkiye's representation at the Web Summit, highlighting the resilience of those striving to establish Türkiye as a technology hub. He noted that the 22 startups participating are targeting global business growth with DEIK's support.
Sector Highlights: Gaming, Defense, and Retail
The Turkish startups showcased at the summit spanned various sectors, including gaming, defense, and retail. Notable participants included Aselsan, a defense technology company, and the Startgate accelerator program.
Focus and Differentiation
TT Ventures, a venture capital firm, supported two startups at the event, emphasizing that a strong focus and solid team are essential for global competitiveness in the tech sector. TT Ventures General Manager, Muhammed Özhan, stressed the importance of specialization, particularly in artificial intelligence.
Togg: A Star Attraction
Togg, Türkiye's first indigenous electric vehicle brand, attracted significant attention with its display at the Web Summit, showcasing its Trumore application and the Togg 10F fastback sedan.
Major Global Participation
For the second consecutive year, Turkish technology startups participated in global events like the Web Summit, supported by five development agencies under the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Over 100 Turkish startups showcased innovations in AI, machine learning, cloud technologies, and more, gaining exposure to potential investors.
Record Attendance
The 2024 Web Summit in Lisbon sold out, drawing over 70,000 participants, including 3,000+ exhibitors and 1,000 investors. The event serves as a networking hub, covering various themes such as fintech, AI, and sustainability.
