Discovering Praia do Evaristo

Many visitors to Albufeira can't resist the allure of the Inatel, Pescadores, and Peneco beaches, but just beyond the marina lies a lesser-known beach that might exceed your expectations, especially with its natural pool that forms during low tide. This beach, Praia do Evaristo, is primarily frequented by locals due to its distance from hotels and tourist accommodations.

The Legacy of Restaurante Evaristo

Praia do Evaristo is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, but it was the now-defunct Restaurante Evaristo that lent its name and fame to this spot. Opened in 1986, the restaurant was situated on the beach and underwent several renovations over the years. Unfortunately, in 2019, it was consumed by flames following a gas explosion in an annex, but it quickly rose again.

A new fire in October 2023 marked the end of the restaurant that gave the beach its name, leaving only the beach and its natural pool for visitors to enjoy. This pool has become the highlight of this small beach, which is annually visited by former President of the Republic, AnĂbal Cavaco Silva.

A Celebrity Retreat

During summer months, Praia do Evaristo attracts some recognizable faces from Portuguese society magazines, thanks to its small, hidden nature. The beach is accessible from the GalĂŠ area, and its location between rugged cliffs adds to its secluded charm.

Safety and Accessibility

In the summer, the beach is monitored by lifeguards, and beach support services are available. To reach Praia do Evaristo by car from Albufeira, simply follow the M526 road. Although there is parking available, it often fills up quickly during the summer due to its limited size. Alternatively, you can take bus number 75 from Vamus Algarve, which runs between the Albufeira bus terminal and Guia, stopping about 10 minutes on foot from the beach.
