A World-Class Beach in the Algarve
Recently recognized as one of the best beaches in the world, this stunning location is just hours away from any point in Portugal. The Praia da Falésia has earned its place among the top five beaches globally according to Tripadvisor's prestigious “Travellers’ Choice – Best of the Best 2024”.
Recognition Method
This accolade is based on thousands of reviews from users over the past year, highlighting the growing popularity of this coastal region among visitors worldwide. Once again, Portugal is celebrated as one of the top-rated beach destinations.
A Distinct Natural Setting
Praia da Falésia, situated between Olhos de Água and Vilamoura, stretches nearly eight kilometers of golden sand, flanked by impressive red clay cliffs. The landscape features contrasting colors, with lush green pines atop the cliffs and warm tones of the cliffs themselves, especially breathtaking at sunset. The clear sky, blue sea, and expansive sandy beach create an impressive scene for all who visit.
One of the most popular walking routes, the Estrada da Rocha Baixinha, offers stunning views of the cliffs from various angles, showcasing the natural beauty of Portugal's southern coast.
Family-Friendly Access
This Algarve beach is easily accessible at the base of the cliffs and is known for being safe for families with children. The flat sandy area, free from submerged rocks, is perfect for calm swimming. Visitor feedback has consistently reinforced the beach's excellent reputation, which benefits from good maintenance and supportive services.
Supporting Infrastructure
Along the cliffs, several hotels provide direct access to the beach, with the Pine Cliffs Resort being one of the most well-known. It features a sea-facing bar and a beach restaurant named Maré, accessible via a wooden staircase built into the rocks.
The restaurant focuses on Portuguese seafood, particularly goose barnacles, oysters, octopus, and fried cuttlefish. Nearby, O Golfinho restaurant serves clams with coriander and the traditional Algarvian cataplana.
Despite the recent recognition, local businesses have not yet observed a significant increase in visitors, as the beach season has just begun. However, expectations are high for a noticeable impact during the summer.
Activities for Everyone
Active visitors can head to the Nautic Drive water sports center located at Praia dos Tomates. From April onwards, visitors can rent paddle boards, kayaks, and jet skis, or embark on dolphin-watching tours and visits to marine caves.
For those seeking a more relaxed atmosphere in the evening, Praia da Rocha Baixinha offers an alternative. The NoSoloÁgua space is famous for its sunset parties featuring guest DJs, cocktails, and Asian-inspired dishes.
Other Award-Winning Beaches
Praia da Falésia isn't the only beach shining a light on the Algarve. Beaches like Marinha in Lagoa and Caneiros in Ferragudo have received similar accolades in previous years. The region continues to earn international awards for its natural heritage.
With this new recognition, the Algarve strengthens its position as a top beach destination in Europe, without the need for long travels across oceans. Just hours away from any point in Portugal, it continues to attract those seeking nature, tranquility, and sea.
Tripadvisor is one of the world's largest travel review platforms, and its “Travellers’ Choice – Best of the Best” award is based on real evaluations from millions of users worldwide, recognizing the most highly-rated destinations across various categories.
