Witnesses Identify Suspect in Braga Murder

Several students outside the Bar Académico in Braga have identified Mateus Machado, known as 'Marley', as the murderer of Manuel Gonçalves, affectionately called 'Manu'. This identification occurred during recognition procedures conducted by the Judicial Police (PJ) on Friday. Despite these claims, António Falé de Carvalho, the lawyer representing the detained Brazilian, asserts that 'Marley' is innocent and had no intention of fleeing Portugal.

The PJ undertook efforts today to confirm the identity of Manu's murderer, subjecting 'Marley' to recognition tests. Witnesses from the crime, which took place in the early hours of Saturday the previous week, pointed out 'Marley' as the individual responsible for the tragic death of the 19-year-old student.

Additionally, investigators are exploring whether more individuals participated in the stabbing that resulted in 'Manu's' death. They are continuing to identify all those involved in the brawl, which occurred near the academic bar and included around twenty young people.

On another note, the PJ is also looking into potential connections between the murder and two arson incidents that occurred at the Bar Académico in Braga. These incidents happened on consecutive days following 'Manu's' murder and were caused by flammable liquids and makeshift devices thrown at the academic facilities.
