14 Mobile Phones Seized in Lisbon Prison
On Saturday, prison guards at the Lisbon Prison intercepted 14 illegal mobile phones that were thrown over the prison walls in three separate incidents throughout the day.
The first batch of three phones was thrown around mid-morning. A man was observed tossing a package near the Palace of Justice, which landed on the kitchen roof of the prison.
Around lunchtime, another package containing four more phones also fell onto the kitchen roof from the same location.
After lunch, guards noticed yet another throw from the Palace of Justice area. This time, a package containing seven mobile phones and chargers landed in the space between the outer wall and the prison kitchen.
All 14 phones were confiscated, and the guards filed a report to the prison management, which will decide whether to notify the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The National Prison Guard Union confirmed the incidents to Correio da Manhã. Frederico Morais, the union president, praised the guards' efforts, stating, "This is another excellent service by the Prison Guard Corps." He emphasized that if prison yards were covered, as they have long advocated, the chances of such incidents occurring would be significantly reduced.
