IPMA Issues Warning for Heavy and Persistent Rain
The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a warning regarding intense and persistent rainfall expected between September 24 and 26. According to the announcement, this rainfall is a result of the transport of a tropical air mass rich in moisture.
Starting from September 24, northern and central regions of Portugal will experience periods of persistent rain, which may become heavy on September 25 and 26, especially along the coast north of Cabo Mondego and in mountainous areas.
While rain is anticipated in southern regions as well, it is expected to be generally light, with possible moderate precipitation on the morning of September 26.
Additionally, the wind speed is forecasted to increase between the afternoon of September 25 and the early morning of September 26, blowing strongly from the southwest, with gusts reaching up to 70 km/h in the northern and central coastal areas, and up to 90 km/h in highland regions, particularly in the North and Center.
