A Night of Culinary Celebration in Porto

Expectations were high at the 2025 Michelin gala held in Porto, marking the second year of Portugal's own Michelin guide. After the previous year's somewhat disappointing gala, chefs and food enthusiasts were eager for more recognition this time around.

During the event at the Centro de Congressos da Alfândega do Porto, hosted by journalist Marta Leite Castro, special awards were presented. Nelson Marreiros, manager of Ocean in the Algarve, received a special service award, while Marc Pinto from Fifty Seconds in Lisbon was honored with the Sommelier Award. Notably, José Diogo Costa of William in Madeira earned the Young Chef Award.

Portugal now boasts 162 Michelin-recognized restaurants, including 8 two-star and 31 one-star establishments, along with 30 Bib Gourmand restaurants that exemplify outstanding quality and value. The gala also saw the addition of 35 new recommended restaurants and one new green star, highlighting the commitment to sustainability.

New Michelin Recognitions

Among the highlights of the night:

  • Eight restaurants received their first Michelin star: Arkhe, Blind, Grenache, Marlene, Oculto, Palatial, Vinha, and Yoso.
  • The prestigious green star went to Encanto in Lisbon.
  • Five new establishments were awarded Bib Gourmand designations: Canalha, Contradição, OMA, Pigmeu, and Terruja.
  • Asian cuisine made a notable impact, with Yoso and Marlene being among the stars awarded.

While the anticipated third star for any restaurant did not emerge, the evening celebrated the culinary diversity and excellence of Portugal, with many chefs and restaurants reaffirming their star status.
