The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a warning regarding the upcoming depression named 'GAROE', which is expected to impact the Azores and Madeira before reaching the mainland starting Monday. This weather system will bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and possible hail.
According to the IPMA, this depression is associated with a frontal system that will start affecting weather conditions in mainland Portugal from Monday morning. The forecast indicates precipitation, at times heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms and occasional hail, persisting until Wednesday.
Additionally, the IPMA forecasts southerly winds that will gradually increase, especially along the coast and in highland areas, where gusts may reach up to 80 km/h by Wednesday. There will also be a gradual increase in maritime agitation, with southwest waves potentially reaching five meters on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The IPMA also notes that this meteorological situation will be characterized by a general rise in temperatures, particularly the minimum temperatures, contrasting with the low values recorded in recent days. Furthermore, today, the IPMA placed all nine islands of the Azores under orange and yellow warnings due to the effects of the depression.
