EasyJet Cancels Flights Amid Cabin Crew Strike
DALLAS — Budget airline easyJet (U2) is preparing for a significant cabin crew strike affecting its operations to and from Portugal this week. The strike will occur from Thursday to Saturday but the airline plans to maintain a considerable portion of its flights during this period.
According to easyJet's statement, the airline aims to operate two-thirds of its originally scheduled flights to Portuguese airports despite the industrial action. This commitment reflects their effort to minimize disruptions for passengers.
Operational Plans During the Strike
The target of 62% operational capacity refers to flights that were scheduled before the strike announcement. Specifically, easyJet had planned 1,138 flights to and from Portugal between August 15 and 17, but expects to operate 906 flights after canceling 232 flights due to the strike.
Details of the Strike
The industrial action is initiated by the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Staff (SNPVAC) and affects all easyJet flights operated by cabin crew based in Portugal. The strike notice is applicable for services with reporting hours within Portuguese territory from 00:01 on August 15 until midnight on August 17.
Passengers impacted by flight cancellations have been notified and are offered the option of a refund or rebooking on alternative flights. The airline encourages customers traveling to or from Portugal during the strike period to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
